In the summer of 2017, I collaborated with Nike, artist Max Sansing, and Game Seven Marketing to create Rise Chicago, a project giving kids across Chicago’s South Side greater access to the game of basketball.

I designed three basketball courts, a series of banners, and six backboards, working to transform familiar spaces into something vibrant, inviting, and distinctly their own. It was one of the most fulfilling projects of my career: using design to make a tangible impact in my own community.

There’s something pretty special about spending weeks obsessing over vectors and seeing them eventually become the backdrop to a kid perfecting their free throw. That part was priceless.
